Minimal Summer Skincare Routine: Less Products, Better Skin

There's a version of summer skincare that involves twelve steps, three mists, and a SPF reapplication schedule. That's not me. The moment the humidity hits Milan in June, my entire approach shifts to one question: does this feel like nothing on my skin? If the answer is yes, it stays.

This is what's actually in my routine right now.

Skin First

Summer is when I strip everything back. No heavy creams, no layering. My skin needs hydration without weight, and my hair needs to survive Milan humidity without turning into a mood.

The Good Elephant D-Bronzi Drops go into whatever I'm wearing that day, sometimes moisturizer, sometimes just sunscreen. They give the kind of glow that looks like you've been somewhere warm, which in summer you probably have.

For barrier support without the heaviness, I've been reaching for the Dr. Althea Barrier Cream. It sounds counterintuitive to use a barrier cream in summer but this one absorbs immediately and keeps my skin from going haywire when I move between air conditioning and 30-degree streets.

The d'Alba First Spray Serum is the kind of product I didn't know I needed. A serum in spray format means one less step and no sticky residue. I use it before SPF and forget about it.

Speaking of which: Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen is the only SPF I've found that genuinely disappears. No white cast, no heaviness, no excuses not to wear it.

For nights when my skin needs a reset, the Biodance Bio Collagen Mask does the work while I sleep. It dissolves into the skin, no peeling off required. I do this once or twice a week and my skin looks noticeably more even the next morning.

The The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum and Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum round out my evening routine. Both lightweight, both consistent performers. Nothing dramatic, just skin that looks like itself but better.

And then there's my one indulgence: Clean Towels. Single-use face towels sound excessive until you realise how much bacteria lives on a regular face towel. In summer when everything is already working against your skin, this is one easy variable to eliminate.

The Hair Chapter

My hair is thick, prone to frizz, and has spent the last few years living in Milan humidity. I've tried everything. The thing that actually changed it was the K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Mask.

I was skeptical because it's expensive and the instructions feel too simple: apply to clean damp hair, don't rinse. But it works on a level that regular conditioning doesn't. It repairs the hair structure from inside rather than coating it. After a few uses my hair was noticeably smoother, not in a product-heavy way, in a healthy way. I use it once a week now and consider it non-negotiable.

For day-to-day, I've become a little obsessed with Lola Cosmetics, a Brazilian brand that understands what hair actually goes through in heat and humidity. The Ela É Carioca Shampoo is formulated for sun, salt, pool, and general summer damage, which covers most of what my hair endures from June to September. It cleans without stripping and leaves my hair soft in a way that lasts.

Their Morte Súbita Mask is exactly what the name suggests: instant rescue. I use it when my hair needs serious hydration and I don't have time to be patient about it. Ten minutes, rinse, done.

The Gisou Honey Infused Hair Perfume is the finishing touch. It smells incredible and adds a subtle shine without weight. I spray it on dry hair before leaving the house and it genuinely makes my hair look like I tried, even when I didn't.

For frizz control specifically: Kérastase Genesis Serum on damp hair before styling, and Dae Styling Cream to finish. Together they keep everything in place without crunchiness or residue.

The goal is always the same: hair that moves, skin that glows, and a routine that doesn't make summer feel like work.
