I work from home most days, so my desk gets more use than any other surface in my apartment. It took me a while to stop buying office supplies that looked like office supplies.

How to Style It
Start with the wood. If the desk or bookcase is warm oak, keep the rest quiet: cream, sage, stone, linen. Then deal with the cables, because a power strip in view undoes everything else. Leave one thing on the surface that has nothing to do with work, and edit the rest.
